Game of Thrones actor Nathalie Emmanuel, known for playing Missandei, has had some spare time on her hands recently and decided to spend some of it in Deal, Kent. The actor really enjoyed herself, and took to Instagram to gush about this overlooked destination.

Nathalie found Kent to be a breath of fresh air for her well-earned downtime, captioning the post: ‘Took a relaxing couple of days away to Deal in Kent last weekend… and it really is quite lovely. At first I was not into the idea of “holidaying” in a seaside town because I grew up in one but I really enjoyed myself. Seems I can’t keep myself out of old castles… one would think I would have learned my lesson 🙄😂…. But Deal and Walmer castle are really cool heritage sites to visit… the gardens at Walmer Castle are spectacular….’

And we would have to agree! Walmer Castle and Gardens are overflowing with beautiful sights and interesting history. Walmer Castle (not to be confused with David Beckham’s pub of the same name) is an impressive Tudor fortress, and the gardens Nathalie mentions include a recently-revived lost garden dating from the 19th century.

And although Nathalie admits she should be avoiding castles, she also went along to Deal Castle which was one of the earliest and most elaborate coastal forts in the UK. As someone who’s spent a lot of time in some very impressive castles, if Missandei says it’s worth a visit, you should probably check it out!

Once you had enough of castles, check out what else there is to see and do on the charming Kent Coast.
