As Europe gears up for the forthcoming Spice Girls reunion tour, fans can spice up their lives further by staying overnight on the original Spice Bus from the 1997 movie Spice World. The iconic Union Jack-painted bus will be located in Market Square in Wembley Park in London on 14 and 15 June, and is available to book through Airbnb.
The bus has been recently renovated, and features pink Union Jack cinema chairs, a ‘Girl Power’ neon light installation and vintage interiors and decor. These include a range of magazines and CDs from the 1990s to help recreate the era when Baby, Sporty, Posh, Scary and Ginger Spice were at the height of their fame.
Upstairs, there’s a dressing area and the adjacent bedroom, where the three guests who get to call the Spice Bus home for the night will sleep, is fitted with an animal-print carpet. The central seating area has colourful scatter cushions for guests to chill out.
Host Suzanne Godley says that she has never grown out of her love for the Spice Girls, so when her boss mentioned that he was considering buying the Spice Bus, she was desperate to be a part of its renovation.
“We’ve worked hard over the past few months to turn the bus into a home, in keeping with its legacy, and I’m so excited to open it up to the public with the support of Airbnb,” she says. “Being part of this project has been like a dream come true and I can’t wait to meet other Spice Girls fans through this experience.”
The bus will be available to book for Friday 14 and Saturday 15 June for just £99 (€113) a night. Given the high level of interest anticipated, Suzanne will be adding available dates from 8AM BST on Wednesday 22 May, to give as many fans as possible the chance to book.
This summer, Wembley Park, where the bus will be stationed for the duration of the stay, is running a free outdoor summer screening programme from 31 May to 23 July. A series of iconic films will be shown, including Spice World on 13, 14 and 15 June.
